I wonder why you were considering leaving Sketch behind?
Duh. Shiny new tools and hipster "designers" can't be caught using the same thing as everyone else. How could they sound special at their conference sand meet-ups otherwise?
Yeah, sure. Because people would rather sacrifice their productivity and all the work they did in Sketch, relearn everything, update processes, just so they could say they are using Figma. Especially hipster designers at Twitter, Microsoft, Airbnb, Github ...
Interesting perspective. Curious to see how you're doing in 5-10 years with this whole "learning new things is bad" strategy. For anyone else reading this, having made the switch, I lost perhaps 10-15% productivity for a day or two due to learning new shortcuts / way of handling components. All the old sketch files converted to figma perfectly, and within a week had regained any lost productivity and then some. After 8 months in figma, we're moving twice as fast as we were in sketch and don't have to muck around with things like Abstract to keep files in sync. Switching to figma reminds me of the switch from Adobe products to sketch when sketch was new. I remember people claiming that photoshop was perfectly fine back then too.
It most likely wasn't very clear from my post. But I'm all in Figma as well! I made lots of templates for mobile app design, as well as a plugin for the newly introduced plugin store.
I used that kind of language because I found the parent post absurd (suggesting that the change or the hype around Figma is happening only because of hipster designers that are using it just to be different)
We made the change where I work and it has been a breeze to work with, no need for file management, version control is already there, everyone has visibility, all the devs love it because its transparent and they plan ahead.
Basically it's the only tool you need. No more Sketch/Invision/Zeplin/Abstract/gsuit crazy hybrid set up.
Bonus: you can use it on windows.
We're in the process of testing a move to Figma. The team collaboration tools are outstanding so far.

Great read Lee. I've been considering moving on from Sketch too but the main thing stopping me is working out which tool to move to. Figma is definitely a contender!
