What a miserable future for music.

Hopefully enough users abandon them despite locked-in artists to demonstrate this is not what we want, but I'm not optimistic.

I'm not sure I would be able to handle working on a product team that spends so little time improving the user's experience.

Well that's how popular music works already. It's the same as design. A team of songwriters (designers) look at current trends and any data they can to make new songs (designs) - It's just going to get more and more granular as they get more details.

It's all good though, most pop music has always been a bit shit. There will still be actual artists out there who create music based off feeling instead of analytics.

To clarify I meant less the actual music and more the means of delivering it to me.

I find the Spotify product extremely lacking, and the development of the product over the last year or two even worse (they have removed more useful features than they have added).

According to Spotify-people I have spoken to they are just focused on better artist tools and not on becoming their own exclusive label, but I am running out of reasons to stick with Spotify and not just switch to Apple Music. The artist tools don't change my experience, and 95% of the same artists are on each platform.

The product prioritization at many large startups and tech companies completely baffles me. People defend their choices as insuring the business stays alive, but I think the history of web products shows us just how often that doesn't work. The last Spotify revenue report shows that earnings per user are down, so clearly what they are trying isn't working.

Solid rant. I agree to be honest. It was pretty annoying when they removed the ability to send songs to people.
