Why? I'd rather have more badges – or like functionality – to be able to filter to content that I actually want to see.
Thomas,
We're in talks of doing something similar to this. Allowing more granular control, possibly even hiding certain badges from the homepage etc, or being able to search within a specific badge.
This sounds great. Being able to hide stuff like the Apple badge would be fantastic.
I totally agree, actually. I have them blocked in Adblocker and it really cleans the site up for me, and makes it easier to focus on the content.
The badges were nice when there was 1-2 per page, and the badges actually told you something. Now that there are a half dozen categories and 2/3rds of all posts have one, it looks very cluttered.
What does the community manager think? @SpenserWolz
Phil,
Peep my response to Thomas for a little insight into what we're thinking in regards to badges. I think just allowing more control with the badges is a great idea. Being able to just select "hide all badges" to suit the use case you've described above is great and I'll it into our notes!

imo it may be helpful to remove badges all together.
