I normally hate hand-wringing and design navel-gazing over redesigns, but this seems like a distinctly worse product.

The text is harsh and difficult to read, the single-article pages now don't have a sidebar and feel like a much more endless column of text, and the link colors are wildly inconsistent. In a single page you'll have links that are black, gray, and red and could or could not be underlined. The new home-page layout is also much harder to scan because it's visually more complex.

Count me as bummed about this, I checked the Wirecutter daily. While I didn't think it had a nice design, I thought it was unique, and it was very practical and useful. This seems like practicality took a back seat to creating something more visually appealing.
