    Try using shift+command when dragging. It will override the smart guide snapping. The only problem is you can't do alt+shift+command to drag a copy, so I command+c, command+v a copy in place and then drag it. This has saved me from a world of frustration.

      Thank you for the solution, but why didn't they just implement it the Illustrator way? Holding shift keeps you stuck to one dimension, but still lets you snap to guides along that dimension. Also lets you use Alt to copy.

      Why make it more difficult than an already good solution?

      Thanks I'll try that, might hold me over for now. But really constrain should mean constrain.
