Here's a screenshot of the upper portion of my new tab screen.
Even with the Bookmarks bar hidden (which mine is), your bookmarks bar still shows on the new tab page.

I'm of course not implying or suggesting that there's an issue with the extension, I haven't seen any new tab extension that leaves the bookmarks bar. I haven't looked into it, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was impossible to accomplish this.
Looks like it's doable.
In the next version we'll look into detecting if your Bookmarks bar is hidden and if so we'll place it where you'd expect to have your bookmarks.
