    For that particular case I'd use a similar method they are using, except with an SVG image. You could use <animateMotion> but that isn't as easy to control the style of or when it's triggered.

      Yep I definitely think CSS3 animation + an SVG would be the best way to dupe that effect. Did a bit of research into animateMotion and I think it would be a little tricky in this case.

        Cool. This would be far more manageable in the future as well. If the site design changed and animation styles changed throughout then it'd be pretty annoying to dig out the animations in the markup.
