First, feedback on the PNG: You could definitely get that PNG-24 down way below 1MB — I copied your image, posterized the photo down to 19 levels, saved as PNG-24, then used imageOptim to compress. Got to 139 KB — smaller than your current PNG-8. A couple notes:

That said, I think your site is excellent Bobby! Lots of fun. I take an extra interest in it because I have been working here and there on a very similar "text disappearing behind mountains" look for a landing page that I hope to put up this weekend. I laughed when I saw your site — "well, darn!"

Thanks for the kind words Kyle and also thanks for bringing ImageOptim to my attention, I'll definitely take a look and see if I can get a better quality version of that PNG without the jaggies down to a reasonable file size with that.

Thanks Ian, I was aware of the jaggy alpha channel at the top edge of the PNG… I had to make a choice between sacrificing the smoothness of a 24 bit PNG for the benefit of saving 1Mb+ in file size and loading times for the user
