I'm stumbling in here from Hacker News via which was posted supposedly 3 hours ago at the time of me posting here, but I swear I saw it pop up yesterday.

A few observations from my point of view relating to myself viewing DN less, while my reading of HN continued:

    • The move from to was symbolic to me in that a new era of ownership began. I have no judgements about the ownership of the site, but the simple change of the URL was, yes, jarring to me. Small things matter.

    • Notable members of the design community either left (Visual Idiot, et al.) or stopped posting quality content. It's been enough years that I've even forgotten a few giants' names, but would recognize them if I saw them again.

    • My velocity in design work for several years, after 2015 up to now, dropped. I peaked in output after becoming a member of Awwwards and getting featured in a few places, and I'm trying to get myself off the ground again. Has the same thing happened to many other designers since then?

Do we rely heavily on each other and the zeitgeist of the design world? Not much has changed in the last few years, I've noticed. Maybe I'm out of touch. I would bet heavily on this.

I think I see more humorous code than serious solutions to current industry issues these days.

I'm a two-time dropout. High school and college. I believe in getting ahead, so I felt compelled to drop out more than the average dropout.

Kidding of course. Though in college I left briefly to obtain a job to pay for said college. And since college was suppose to be helping me get a job...

Harumph. I wanted to find reason why it should be even smaller! I want bytes, not kilobytes! But, alas, it's rather small as it is, and impressively so, too.

Very neat. This is a lib to remember. However, GitHub claims the .min.js build is 2.5kb.

I don't think that's you stating something from a high horse, so much as it is imparting knowledge based on experience.

  • Posted to Ask DN: Who gives you inspiration?, Dec 23, 2015

I can't say it's always individuals. Sometimes it's whole companies/agencies, or communities. There's a little GMUNK in the UI work I do, and way more Superbrothers and Valve than I would like to admit in my game development. Much of the Awwwards community influences me as well as varied designers and artists from dribbble.

There are too many to list, but these come to mind. You inspire me too, DN fam. Keep owning it.

Well why don't you make one, silly head?
