I'm currently doing the green card lotto. That and marriage visa are the only ways you can "freelance" and live in America for more than 3 months.

You could always do the digital nomad thing, work three months in America and freelance under the visiting visa then you hop back to the uk and then get the visiting visa again. You could do this and then make contacts with companies while there, that could sponsor you.
