+1 Love this tool
I've had both, and heavily prefer the new one, even though it's ridiculously expensive
I'd say there's a few major upsides:
+1 for this one, works like a charm.
@luis, also worth mentioning: External GPU support via thunderbolt 3 is coming in High Sierra, so if you can live with being tied to a desk sometimes you might not have to sacrifice that much performance either. https://developer.apple.com/development-kit/external-graphics/
Absolutely love my Dell U3415W. It's 34" and certainly not cheap, but there's no going back from comfortably using three apps next to each other.
Colors are nice, even though I like them better on the iMac etc. I do more dev work than design though.
+1 for the 12".
Got the m7 a couple of weeks back, haven't noticed anything it can't do (of my dev work) that my old 2012 quad-i7 could yet, and the portability is a game changer.
Hopefully USB-C/TB3 accessories will drop in price a bit now that all the apple notebooks use it, good times.
I've been using it on my work MBP since beta 2, been as stable as El Cap for me :)

Old one def does a stellar job still, I'd say it's the second best trackpad you can buy, it's just that the new one is the best :)
