Love this idea, would definitely invest $99 for it (potentially more for the branded version.)

Personally, I have a slight aversion to the hand drawn numbers in the background of some of the templates. Inlining or putting them above the titles would reduce the cognitive effort required to process them.

Completely depends on your personality, stylistic preferences, budget and how you plan on wearing it.

If you plan on wearing it semi-regularly but not every day a quartz will make most sense.

If you want to wear it every day consider an automatic and you'll probably want something on the sportier side as it will handle getting wet, rubbing it on your desk, banging it against door knobs, etc...

Seiko tends to be the best bang for the buck at any price point, from $100 to $10,000 (or higher -- see Credor.)

If you want to impress people with brand recognition get a Rolex.

I like my Jaeger LeCoultre Deep Sea Chronograph. It's a nice blend of class and sport. It's a good daily wearer but also dresses up nice with a suit.

Plus the average person has no idea what it is or if it's a quality watch or not, which I appreciate.

If the web is "completely boring" it's because users want it to be that way. If completely different "out of the box" layouts were desirable everyone would be designing them that way.

What designers have found is that users don't want the web to be a new experience every time you visit a different site. They're not accessing the site for a rich exploratory experience, they want... wait for it.... content. Fun design for the sake of "fun" just get's in the way of accessing the content one is after.

Snake oil might be a little over the top. If the question is, "Can the learning of design be accelerated?" I would say absolutely.

You can take a poor approach to learning a new skill or your can take an optimized approach. Is TF's "framework" a good fit for design? Not sure... probably even depends on who's learning it.

Certainly I see value in dissecting successful designs to understand why they are successful and identifying the most important skills of designs. This would be more effective than just opening up photoshop and trying to rack up hours.
