Looking at the screen recordings (I have a tracking tool connected to analyse usage patterns and issues) I see that on some os X chrome sessions the menu is invisible. Once I find and fix the issue I will let you know. Thanks for taking the time to look at it!
These are just variations of the same landing page. To be honest, I have already implemented the first version, but I'm not very confident it is the best approach.
Your second observation makes me think a little bit. You are completely right about the philosophy, swiss is intended to be functional oriented rather than showing fancy visuals. The landing page is the only place where this is found, the rest of the pages are very clean. Do you think I should change it? or is it ok to bend the rules a little bit to convey a bit of creativity and art/typography literacy?
Thanks for your comment Sjors! I will answer your questions:
The audience is a potential employer or a fellow designer who might want to check out some of the projects.
The personal "brand" I want to create is one of simplicity, neatness, with a pinch of creativity.
The main constraint is the size. The website must be responsive and look good even at extreme sizes. I have seen designers using large 4k screens, chances are that a hiring design team will see my work on such screens. Mobile is also very important since more and more people use a phone to check email and surf the web. I don't expect anyone to review it in depth on mobile, but a good first impression always helps. Conference room projectors used in some interviews have also size constraints, at least the one I have seen have pretty low resolutions.
Responsiveness was taken into account for all alternatives, I think they have pretty straight forward solutions for all breakpoints.
The aim of the landing page is to make a good impression and convey the attributes of the "brand". First step in evaluating the solution is to see if people like it, especially designers, they are my main target group, hence the question on this board. If some of them are kind enough, they will also provide feedback or critique. A second approach would be to interview a number of people to find answer to questions like: what do think of this website? name three attributes that come to mind, what do you like, why, etc.
I think sticking to the current approach is enough for the moment, since the most important part of the portfolio is actually the work, not the landing page.
I love the copy and the concise case studies. I am in the process of updating my personal page as well and I can judge yours through my experience. I would have loved to find out where you're from, how you look, other projects you have worked on in a 10 years career.
I know a lot of advice goes toward having very few and short pieces and this probably works in locations where the recruiters are overwhelmed with applications, I personally like to get to know the person a bit more before committing to an interview. I would strive for a stronger emotional connection with the audience.
Nice narrative, a little bit longer than I hoped for, but a great educational tool
I am doing a little research for a talk on simplicity. Please vote and maybe leave a comment to justify your choice. Thanks a bunch!
Great job Adrien! I really love the transitions!
Thank you for taking the time to review and comment Scott!
As you could see, web development is not my strong point, I actually learned some of the concepts during the creation of the website.
I will incorporate your feedback in the next version, minus the templating thing since I am looking to keep the development, deployment and hosting as simple as possible.
Thanks again, this is great feedback!
