Now it looks like this. When I switch apps, it looks like this. I plan to keep it that way for some time.

I actually think this is not a bad decision. Look at how we deal with dots when we're writing something. Unless that's not a dot dot, but specifically an "aim" or "center" dot. If that's a "wait" or "nothing" dot, it's fine by me, since if it were put in any other position it would be even more unsettling for the common user.
