I'd be keen to see how many people meant "Sketching" instead of "Sketch" with Brainstorming and Prototyping.

I think he was just sad that LayerVault died.

Just in case it wasn't clear, LayerVault and DesignerNews are from the same team. LayerVault was essentially the same as what you're building, and it closed down, while DesignerNews kept going.

EDIT (11 months later): This is such an important tool for a team. Being able to work on the same file and merge changes is the piece that I was missing in my earlier comment.

For me too. I've found if you're using Dropbox, this isn't needed. Just jump on version history in Dropbox and revert.

You don't need this on Mac.

System Pref > Notifications > Do Not Disturb > CHECK "When mirroring to TVs and Projectors".

Adding to this great overview - essentially recruiters are looking for Context. The #1 question is "Why was this designed/created in the first place?". What is the purpose of 'it'. By defining the problem/constraints etc you are controlling the narrative.

Couldn't agree with this more. I've gotten to the point that when I take a screenshot and share it (for work etc) I delete it from the desktop straight away (as it's now saved in the imessage/Slack channel anyway). It's rare that I won't be able to screenshot that item again later anyway (including live streaming events as they're usually recorded).

Loved the animation, and the script. However, I'm going against the grain on this one - I think this showed so much chaos, not managed very well. So many different shapes, thrown around everywhere, just grouped by color in boxes. If you use Slack, which I do, it's a fantastic tool - but I would say it's very cluttered and confusing at times.

Everything in is lists - searching, sharing information, and finding certain items can become a dig around just like searching a folder on OSX. I would love an overview (i.e. Trello) for certain rooms at times, just to get a handle on the main points of conversation.

Our team is split across the world, and when you wake up to 150+ messages in one room you have no choice but to read them all to find anything relevant. If you get tagged, you'll have to scroll it for ages to find out where it was - there is no callout.

If you search for something, the right pane pops in and shrinks the width of the main area - so when you collapse the search box it expands and you lose the item you were just looking at.

And let's talk about those rooms on the sidebar - some are up the top, some jump to the top, some are pinned, yet you can't move them around manually. Why not?

Slack is about as controlled as Twitter. Sure, you can have channels [aka, keywords] - but it's all just a wall of text like a text message conversation with a lot of people. That's not control.

No idea why I had this mini rant but here it is anyway. P.s. Slack, I still love you - but gosh darn it, don't try to pretend you're something you're not.

What a shame that the comments here go into a negative spin.

Let me clarify what I think happened:

He wrote a post about something he approved of. He told it to his friends online - because he most likely has a larger group of friends online than in person (I know I do). There is no monetary incentive, no bribery - just a good, modern version of a 'kudos' post.

What Google pulled off with this rollout was pretty amazing. It's been received quite well from what I've seen, and has been updated across all areas relatively quickly.

Years of the media pushing negative material/sensationalist headlines and that's how we (as a general society) are now instantly programmed. It's hard to see a positive post and not immediately be skeptical about the 'deal' behind the doors about how that post came to be.

Positivity is fucking hard. Negativity is fucking easy.

  • Posted to It would be nice if dribbble "likes" worked like this..., Aug 27, 2015

Slight issue: Views = Logged in and logged out visitors. Likes = Logged in users only.

If you're assuming that the people who viewed, weren't logged in and didn't click LIKE didn't actually enjoy your post, you're going to have a bad time.

Sure, there's no way to quantify that on the other side either, but it's not smart to link views to likes in this case.
