I still use 960.gs on most projects (unless a Corporate Identitu has their own grid system)... Make it bigger for bigger screen sizes.Still very useful.

Same here, use it for my portfolio site (http://www.snnewijbenga.com). You can change and customise some standard stuff in their editor, but if you can do a little CSS and Javascript you can do even more... I love the CMS behind it. It makes updating very easy.
However, I would really adjust my design on the basis of a Squarespace template you pick, not the other way around.
I think for simple content based websites it is absolutely a good option...

What I mean with 'it doesn't detect touch', is that I see on the screen if somebody clicks something...
I personally think you should get away from the computer and try to learn about the basics of design in general. Typography, grids, colour stuff like that...
Things in combination with Workflowy for less urgent and more documented matters...
