Preventing spam doesn't seem to be a high priority on DN, but an example thread which has been infested:

Once the spammers find this topic, they will likely fill it up as well. I've reported a bunch of these, but honestly I ultimately gave up on it.

    I don't know why people are downvoting you, I saw this too. Seems like a problem that DN really needs to fix.

      To be fair, it is a problem, and the problem being identified isn't the issue.

      I think the downboats are because ol Ken here is the squeakiest wheel in need of grease in this regard.
