Designers who code, where and how did you learn to do so?

over 3 years ago from , Senior Product Designer @ Shopify Plus

As a Product Designer who's pretty fluent in HTML and CSS, increasingly more interested in learning how to code full-fledged front-end projects, I find myself looking for resources to learn. I thoroughly enjoyed the Introductory courses on Codecademy, but am looking to develop myself further.

To those of you who do code / program, where and how did you learn? Which resources would you recommend?

    Google and Stack Overflow.

Personally, I prefer to learn by building something - so think of something to build, choose a language then build it. If you get stuck along the way, google your problem and someone will no doubt have asked it before.

I read something a while ago where someone tried to learn a new coding language every year. To help them learn, they would build a calculator in that chosen language.

Side note: I'm currently going through the videos by Wes Bos on javascript30.com

Hey Paul! I am in the same boat as you. Right now I am taking a few courses on skillshare to help push things along but I have been working on a few fake projects to speed the process along. Trial and Error :)

I've started learning coding back in 99 using books. Then I freshen up using Google and Stack Overflow.
