Pretty sweet app. Free is good. If you're looking for something a little more robust with extended controls and options, Bartender is a great option as well.
Oh, I didn't know Bartender!
+1 to Bartender. I've used it to de-clutter my menu bar. The "Show item in menu bar for XX seconds" is my favorite feature as it's helpful for apps w/ updates or when syncs are happening.
Love Bartender! The main reason I needed to make Vanilla was because my other app Rocket had a lot of people asking to hide its menu bar icon, but I felt weird asking people to install a $15 app when Rocket was free. Definitely recommend Bartender for those who need more power
I like the concept, but it's pretty buggy. At least for me, with multiple monitors... it looks good one my primary monitor, but the menu bar on the secondary monitor is missing the < icon, and there's a "ghost" menu bar on my primary monitor.
Also having the same problem with multiple monitors, as well as full screen workspaces.
--Edit-- Just got an update that fixed it!
same problem. my primary monitor works fine, but there is no < on my second display.
I've also had the same experience with multiple monitors. It became a bit unusable and I reverted back to Bartender for now.
Super buggy as well even on my main monitor, while in Sketch half of my top menu bar from the program is hidden...
[Creator of Vanilla here, just got linked to this thread…]
Thanks for trying out the app! The 1.0 was super buggy on multiple monitors, the current version improves things a lot, but definitely isn't perfect. You can do a Check for Updates via the menu bar icon.
The next version (currently in beta testing, hoping to make available to everyone in the next few days) should make everything even smoother too
Finally, a nice free version of Bartender.
Note:
The application requires OS X 10.12 or later
I do love this. It looks great and works well. Been using it since it came out - really cleans up my menubar, which has become unruly since many apps that I need for work will only live there these days.
Just what i needed!
Is it free from malware as well?
Love it. Happy customer
