Sorry all if I gave the wrong impression with posting this. I wasn't necessarily looking for feedback on the content of the site, more just wanted to show a little project I had built, had some fun making the little day/night mode and thought others might find it fun :)
I like it! Thanks for sharing—I like to see other designers' homepages. And there are some nice details that warrant sharing it for sure.
I guess the other commenters have never seen a personal landing page before? It was pretty obvious to me that that's what it is. And in case you do want to turn it into a full on portfolio in the future, it's a great start.
Thanks Nick :) yeah I hope to turn it into more of a portfolio one day too
Can I ask what the purpose is here?
There's no contact, there's no professional background, there are no projects. So I'm not sure if you are trying to get freelance work, a new job, or get an understanding of your work.
If it's a portfolio, I'd imagine you'd be missing all 3 of those.
I do however love the little emoji wave.
Great question Kyle! You've definitely got a point, I don't have any of that information on here. To be honest I'm not really looking for a new job or freelance work. I'm happily employed and working on a lot of projects that I can't always share publicly.
My personal site is just a place where I can have some fun and experiment with a few little fun details. The idea was just to have a dribbble feed on it to keep the content somewhat fresh :)
As far as a personal site goes, I like it. I'm just not too sure what kind of feedback you're looking for?
I guess if you're not trying to achieve anything in particular other than a personal site where you have a bit of fun then, good job you've done. And that is really all I can contribute to this. Which makes my comment kind of pointless.
Yeah that's fair, I guess I wasn't necessarily looking for some specific feedback but just wanted to show something I had built. Probably a bit too self promotional :/
As long as you're not sharing clickbait then we're five by five. Keep sharing, don't let us haters bring you down ;).
Thanks man :)
I'm just curious why a personal site has to be "something" or that it's bad that it can be consumed in 5 seconds? It's a personal site so it should be however I want it to be. I wanted something that simply links out to where I work and to my dribbble page in case people wanted to follow me there. I'm not claiming it to be something it's not
I agree with you, Jon – my immediate assumption upon landing here is 1.) oh a personal site on DN, 2.) oh they're a product designer, therefore 3.) they want critique on it based on what product designer portfolios SHOULD be.
Those were all presumptions on my part, for sure, and it looks like others have their own, too.
I like your site! It represents exactly what you want in your own personal corner of the internet.
So, based on what you've said it was, here's my thoughts:
I love the microinteractions! The hand wave movement + the canadian flag are cool, and the hover states on the links are great. You clearly explain that they lead to Dribbble too.
I like your color, type, and IA choices – it's very clear you're good at web design from such a simple site. It's very strong!
But at this point, it does look like this site stands as simply a site to be posted on DN for show and tell, and nothing more... which is fine! But if you actually intend to show people outside of DN, I recommend at the very least including some contact information.
Otherwise, cool!
Hey Cory! Thanks for the thoughtful comment :) I totally agree and that was definitely more of what my intention was. I'd love to post something else soon that has more of a critique component to it as well. There's a lot of value in getting the communities feedback on that kind of thing
Jon, you don't live in San Francisco man. We would be bff's other wise.
It's true man :( We can still be bff's though, just move here :) Canada's the best <3
