The new Mollie

almost 6 years ago from , Designer at Mollie

cover

Hey guys,

Today we proudly release the completely rebranded Mollie. In the past couple of months we completely restructured our products and features, built a new website from scratch, gave it all a fresh new design and copy, and completely refactored the whole backend and frontend. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Check it out at mollie.com or read some more about us and the rebranding on Medium

Let me know what you think!

Giel

I don't mean to simplify or even compare you to something else, but is this meant to compete with stripe?

The floating grid gallery is so cool! It's like a relaxing lazy river.

I've been a fan of Mollie for sometime now. But it was always hard to convince international clients. This rebrand should help a lot with that. Great work guys.

For those that don't know Mollie. Imagine a payment system for 'anything' with an easy to use API and helpful staff that doesn't charge monthly fees.

The new look of the Mollie website is great! It's casual, well presented and the product looks thereby reliable. I only think it’s a pity you don’t see the new logo on your website!

    Nice.*

*that's what I'm supposed to write as we're on DN :D

By just looking at the website for no more than 5 seconds, does anyone realize it's a payment provider? Not sure if the brand is self-explanatory enough...(like PayPal)

The river effect is unique but it also feels a little uncomfortable (it might be the subtle left/right inner wiggle of the blocks)

I'm a happy Mollie customer anyways, so I might be bit biased :)

does anyone realize it's a payment provider?

Yes. It contains the words 'Better Payments' in 80px type. It's somewhat hard to miss.

Nice. But why did you put that mockup of the website on an image of a starry sky in the mountains? I don't understand it. I was looking for the mountains on your website, but I didn't find them anywhere, so they are apparently also not part of the branding. Why that image then?

That's a photo of El Capitan, included with Mac OSX El Capitan as a desktop background. I think most of the readers on designernews.co know a desktop background has nothing to do with the branding of Mollie.

Well, first of all thanks for the complement. What I learned is that context is a really important part of design. So I want to put the merchant in something that's placed in perspective. Our dashboard is a web app, so when you put it in context it's a browser on top of a wallpaper. I get it when you don't like the wallpaper but I think that's flavour. I hope that I answered your question correctly.

I like the transitions when opening the site and floating images of customers. It looks so smooth and I watched for a couple of minutes, it has something restful. Also a nice wide layout where the texts are not too wide. That makes it easy to read the texts.

The only comment I have is about the text color on the blue and yellow backgrounds. With a low display brightness the contrast between the background and the text is slightly too low in my opinion. The text color may be slightly darker due to the contrast for readability. That is probably a small detail that you can or can not dispute :-)

    Overall, very nice work!
