What the fuck.
It should be renamed to Google Banner Designer
Google *Ad Designer
OH "yeah, I'd say the second most likely company to fuck over Adobe would be Google. Just after Adobe."
Looks like they have put together a massive team for this, so they must be pretty serious about entering the web design software space: https://plus.google.com/+googlewebdesigner/posts/F9B3VgBtXtd
This is actually a tool that was originally developed by people at Motorola: http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2012/07/ninja-power-open-source-html5-toolset-hopes-to-unleash-the-web/
Took a test drive and found the interface to be really confusing. I understand this is still in beta so hopefully they can fix a lot the bad UI and UX.
Adobe Edge was so much easier to jump into than this, although I still have a hard time seeing anyone use this type of a tool in a production environment.
And I quote:
"Google Web Designer is an advanced web application that's built with HTML5 which lets you design and build HTML5 advertisements and other web content..."
It's a little strange using it for the first time. Macaw's demo video certainly made it seem like their tool will be much easier to use. When drawing a rectangle in GWD, the code output is drawing the element with canvas, and positioning it absolutely. I've looked and can't find an easy way to change this.
seems like this is more for making ads than websites, which makes sense coming from Google.
It certainly comes with ad capabilities. But...they named it Google Web Designer. Who knows.
Apple has a similar product. Although their product name is more directed at ad creation https://developer.apple.com/iad/iadproducer/
