That took a really long time to load for me. I almost bailed.
me too! :(
Yeah we had a couple of server issues making load times brutal. Sorry about that. — Dom from Httpster
The timeline is pretty cool
Brutalism galore.
Don't think you know what that term means.
galore: in abundance. "there were prices galore for everything"
:p
Designer News: An alternate universe where anything that isn't a tech start-up landing page qualifies as "brutalist."
Some nice details there. I found the 'filter by type' tags particularly difficult to read though. They are as inaccessable as you can get http://contrastchecker.com/?swatch_session=KW9en1wpRi5F
Yup. There are a heap us accessibility (and performance!) things I'll be rolling out soon. I've been sitting on that design for literally years. Just getting it live was the initial priority.
Why even have this vertical text line? Who would ever read it and why? http://i.imgur.com/tKgBgMn.png
Because that's what httpsters do.
Because it's not for read, it's there to make the site looks cool and different than others.
Then why do it with text and not graphical elements :) ? Messing with the brain trying to take hierarchy; you want to read text, whilst a graphical element can ALSO make the site look cool and different to others but not stop your digesting the site by trying to read.
You were obviously capable of reading it ;)
You'll enjoy this then, http://www.allaboutdavid.fr
I really appreciate that they kept the thumbnail layout. Too many sites have moved to the style of Awwwards.
Httpster is neat, it's easy to see new sites and if they're looking inspirational or not.
I agree Awwwards is a great example of too much UX/UI. A little over-designed in my opinion. Sometimes it is good to take your foot off the gas.
I tried to keep it pretty simple. Httpster is all about the content on the site, not trying to look too cool in its own right.
Well executed in that regard.
should httpster be curated into httpster tho
