Sketch Version 40.1 (33804) - performance issues

almost 7 years ago from , Senior Digital Product Designer

Ever since I've updated to Sketch 4 and beyond it became slow and causing performance issues. Loading times are painfully slow and it doesn't matter if there are lots or only a couple of artboards, images etc.... Even zooming and panning across became slow. Using a Mac mini late 2014 with 2,6GHz i5, 16gb of memory, ssd hard drive and Intel Iris graphics, running El Capitan 10.11.1.

I do not have performance problems with Os X nor any other graphics software, even Adobe stuff runs smoothly.

Anyone experiencing the same issues?

Running on Mid 2015 '15 Pro, Sierra and I don't seem to have any performance issues.

Same here. Very laggy and it's a pain to use Sketch.

Sketch is a great product, but this is one thing that I absolutely hate about it. I don't like the fact that every release is a hit or miss in terms of performance. Some releases, it's awesome and fast. Other releases, the performance is absolute rubbish. Two releases ago, I could barely use Sketch because of crashing. The next release fixed those issues. Sketch 40, though, has reintroduced some of the performance issues that I was originally dealing with.

I initially thought it might be the fact that I was running on an older MacBook Pro, but I recently picked up a maxed out 2015 15" MacBook Pro and it didn't change a thing. I really wish they would focus heavily on performance for a little while.

New features are useless if the product barely runs.

    Yes, unbearably bad.

Yes, several folks on my team are having the same issues. Every few minutes, it freezes and out comes the beach ball. Pretty frustrating.

This is on a 2015 MBP with 16 GB of RAM.

Happens to me too. Support told me to go back to v39. It's been working perfectly.

Devs have confirmed that there is a problem with the combination of Sketch 40 + Sierra + Radeon graphics cards. App slows down and beach ball bonanza all over. Told me a week ago that it would be fixed in "days", but 40.1 did not fix the problem. Some people claim that turning off Mirror helps.

Same Issue with 40.3 El Capital 10.11.6 doesn't solve the issue

Lag seems to happen on larger project files only though

I haven't had any problems on my iMac (27-inch, Late 2013) or my macbook pro (15 inch, Late 2015) both running Sierra. I've only been creating wireframes and UI designs so far but both have quiet a lot of screens and haven't had an issue with lag or zoom (so far).

It runs pretty smooth for me. However, snapping to edges and groups suddenly becoming click-through enabled when disabled in settings, is getting really annoying.

This happens without using mirror. I've now updated the system to 10.11.6 and it looks like it solved the issue. Will test it for a few days and share the results.

I have especially performance trouble when Mirror is running for previewing design in my phone. I mentioned it via Twitter to them and they are aware of it. https://twitter.com/buxx/status/778938782569598976
