I bet designer & developer think scrolling effect is so "smooth", "slick" and "professional" while users are so annoyed at scrolling jacking.
Cool site but sheesh. The date entry is awful... I typed the date in the American format and trying to correct it was nearly impossible because it switches input focus in a super frustrating way.
Oh man, I ran into this exact same issue and was just doing a similar animated gif.
It is such a shame that there are obviously incredibly talented designers and photographers working on projects, and instead of making it usable first, they create all these fancy interactions.
This website would be beautiful without scroll hijacking, with a better "are you old enough" screen, and content that shows up when you want to look at it instead of when the animation is done.
Also, the navigation is hardly legible even on my fancy retina screen.
The web is awesome because the user is in control. We spent years waiting for fast internet speeds, only to slow websites down with transitions for fanciness sake.
Thanks for the comments! We adjust the scrolljacking, speed the animations on the web a bit up and make the menu more visible on the homepage. Cheers!
It's awesome that you guys are so receptive to criticism -- visiting it today, the site looks & works great! Bravo.
Thanks Rachel!

Hmm.. it should auto change to the English version if you visit the website outside The Netherlands.
Scroll Hijacking doesn't work on Chrome, at least for me.
I'm still not old enough! 1991, on chrome
I dig the design of the site. I also like the scrolling "effect", but I dislike the scroll-hijacking -_-
