It really is! The cool thing is, most of this isn't that hard to do in after effects. a lot of it is just basic compositing. Its the color correction that is difficult with the old footage. The huge boat in the bathtub would be a rotoscoping nightmare. but yeah, I love this video, really great idea.
Yeah I was thinking about the old meets new footage. Certainly took some talent.
Why's it difficult ? Could it be just a normal footage color corrected to look old ?
It less about how old it looks, and more about the lighting, and RGB values of the video clips. Sense old clips have crappy codecs, resolution, and color spaces, its harder to color correct them to look like they belong in the scene. same applies to the newer footage (like the boat in the bathtub) but a lot of it was high res, and probably filmed in 4:2:2 color space, which allows for greater color correction because more data is held in the file.
to answer your question, it is possible, but a lot of this looks like it was from the film archive. and the rotoscoping job done on them leads me to believe some of it was actually old.
So, its not that its difficult per se, but just takes a keen eye.
Such a great work. The style reminded me to Joseba Elorza's videos.
Wow! Hadn't heard of him! his stuff is great! thanks for sharing
Truly is! You should check out Vania Heymann's work at https://www.youtube.com/user/vaniaHey
Which leads to this awesomeness: https://youtu.be/_XGd8w9RhUM :)
Love this! Thanks for sharing. They did a great job of using proportions and mixing things like land and sea to create some really interesting concepts.
It's cool! But feels like they went on tumblr and stole all the good collage idea's. Because I have seen a lot of scenes in the video that I have come by over the 5 years I have been scrolling on Tumblr.
Something is missing to make it a masterpiece though.
It would have helped to have a narrative or tell a story. It just feels like the same juxtaposition mashup at the same intervals.
Calculated cool. This actually makes perfect sense for Coldplay.
