I'm really not sure if that's VSCO expressing a very sophisticated sense of humor or if they're being serious.
VSCO has always been weird but this is just too much. Any designer from VSCO on here that can comment on this?
Why is this too much?
Someone went to Architecture school.
That is a sausage. Why?
Based on some of their newsletters and featurettes recently, I'd say they're serious. Maybe I'm old and don't understand the kids :(. They've long been an app that I love and hate equally. Their UI assumes you understand their incoherent iconography.
They're being dead serious.
It looks like they're taking a few cues from (Modern/Post-Modern) graphic design and looking closer at things such as semiotics, symbols, and how the (graphic, not Mr. Rams') design principles come into play with this. This is very different from what UI designers would have focused on in regards to graphics (e.g. "How effective is this at communicating the brand".)
Shit to make you feel smart.
It doesn’t look entirely serious. But if it is primarily satire or commentary on writing about art, a serious amount of work went into it. I hope this didn’t steal too much time away from VSCO Film – love using it.
It is very intense, but does start to make sense if you really dig into it. It is an interesting visual experience if you skip all the fluff in the theory behind it.
