ASK DN: How do you manage typefaces as a design team/company?

almost 8 years ago from , UX Designer at Kabbage

The conversation was sparked today at the office regarding typeface management between our team of designers (4 people) and our entire company when necessary (20). This started because we contemplated the use of RightFont and how that might integrate into our workflow.

So I am curious how you all and your teams manage your ever growing typeface library and maybe finally put an end to the question, "Hey Nick, do you have Archer Ultra Small Caps?"

This is a big concern for me as well. I work in a small agency so its not a huge problem yet but I don't think our method is the most scalable or efficient.

We have a shared dropbox folder, and a few different typekit subscriptions. Its a nuisance on boarding new designers and and hoping they have the same library of fonts installed which is not the case most times. In the end I think it limits type exploration a great deal.

I was also looking at Rightfont but it's gonna be a tough sell, as designer "needs" always are haha.
