This seems really great. I love the design and the animations and the pricing seems reasonable (obviously depending on how good and consistent the content is).
This might be petty, but I'm really not a fan of the term unicorn. Too self aggrandizing for a skill set that's no longer that rare.
Thanks Joel!
I was wary of the term at first, but I've fully embraced it, haha. But I think that it's still a pretty rare skill set to have. Definitely not as rare as maybe a few years back, but I think we could still come a long way as a community.
That was my entire goal with Unicasts, to teach people those skills to be able to take their ideas from start to finish :)
All for this, just hope you aren't fostering a generation of people who call themselves unicorns, or I might let out the The-Groan-That-Never-Ended
Haha :)
Is there more pro content because I can only see one pro video right now.
There are more pro videos on the way, but yes, just the one for now.
I can signup right now, but i'm worried if it happens to be same as any other tutorial site.
Hey Arun,
I don't think there is really any other tutorial site that takes you step by step through planning, designing + coding a rails web app (that I know of at least).
Unless you meant something else?
Hey Mackenzie,
I was thinking about joining, but am currently in the frontend foundations course on Code School. I'm also going through John Duckett's book, and a Head First book as well.
How much frontend do you cover in the course, or do you assume that the designer already has a solid understanding for html/css/javascript etc.?
Hey! I do assume that you have a basic understanding of the front-end (ie I don't spend a whole bunch of time explaining what every little thing does, but I do explain as I go), but I do go step by step through coding the entire front-end of the web app so you can see everything I do :)
I've yet to give this a go, though I've been going through his 12 in 12 videos and I've learnt a ton so far!
Definitely interested in giving this a go once I've been through those.
Awesome Matt! Are you planning on doing all 12?? Only a few people that I know of have done all of them... So you could join the select few :)
That's the plan, I'm doing no. 6 right now!
Nice :) Number 11 & 12 were my favorites!
I'm not thrilled about having to sign up with out knowing the cost.
The price is on the homepage of you scroll to the bottom
"I'm a unicorn, you can be one too. Give me money"
It's cool to be teaching tho i guess.
.
If this is still up and running in the summertime, (which I really hope it is), you'll have me in no doubt. Looks really amazing ;)
Thanks :) And yes, it definitely will be!
