Much better! I already liked their football website which is live now for a couple months → http://www.espnfc.com/

I still think espnfc.com is one of the best designed news sites ever. It definitely helps that it's representing a specific niche (football/soccer) and that they have access to compelling imagery for just about every article imaginable, but the way the content is presented is really fantastic.

They also seem to have the benefit of not having to have as much ad space mixed in - which to be honest - can wreck havoc on any design once you have background takeovers, etc.

Definitely one of the best redesigns together with Bloomberg and the new Virgin Atlantic website. I think ESPNFC was designed by Rally Interactive. Not sure if they did this one as well.

I love the espnfc design. The new espn.go.com design feels a little too busy. *Note I am logged in, with several "Favorite" teams, so it might look a little busier for me. It's a huge improvement from the old site, but it feels like a ton of logos, images and colors fighting for my attention. IMO they would be better off removing the "favfeed" section and integrating favorites into the top menu.

The logo serves as the loader. Clever!

Awww, I'm going to miss that ... ermmm ... "beautiful" red-to-gray gradient background.

This is a long, long overdue redesign.

Ugh, a lot of more focused content is still being pulled from the old site and it looks bad.

Hats off to the ESPN product team and possibly Rally Interactive (not sure if they were involved in this project?)! I know this must of been a huge undertaking.

Looks great! I wouldn't mind seeing the font size bumped up a bit on the body copy though. Even at 16px it seems rather small.

Man, I agree about the point of it being better simply because it's now responsive (loved the 61% only-mobile stat), but this "introducing" article feels so half-assed... leaving most non-tech/design users probably scratching their heads as to why it truly is better than the last. They could have spun this much better IMHO.

That's a new article that looks like an excerpt from their article that IS specifically for designers/tech people that was on Medium.

http://espn.go.com/espn/redesign/ is the link they were showing yesterday in the overlay announcing the redesign.

Nah - it's right on their homepage below the masthead/main story stuff. It's what they are directing visitors to. It's been there since the launch a few hours ago now...

Looks the same as the ESPN from 10, 5, 3, 2 years ago. Maybe I'm not seeing a different version.

...and it's too early for April fools.
