Is Bourbon still needed these days?
It has some useful mixins for calculations. Although the main benefit for me is it's Neat addon for layouts and column breakpoints.
Ooh, I had forgotten about Neat. If nothing else, I like thoughtbot's logos for things.
Exactly this reason. I use Neat for simple grids, hence my dependence on Bourbon, but with Autoprefixer much of it is not needed.
Does anyone know if this removes the Ruby dependency? Or is Ruby still required.
I think so! Bourbon is on npm.
Bourbon has never needed Ruby. Compass does, but Bourbon is just a bunch of Sass files.
