Get Started Re-Skinning Wordpress Themes

Hi guys,

I'm a designer and fairly novice web developer and recently I've been asked to do the development of a wordpress site. Reskinning an existing theme to match a brands specific look. This visual change goes much further than the GUI interface can handle so of course I'm going to have to break out the code and get fiddling but I'm not too sure where to start.

Does anyone have any suggestions/links that could help me do this the 'right' way? Anything to help me get started doing this type of work (which I assume is pretty common).

    I get this kind of work fairly often . Generally doesn't require too much fiddling with the code depending on the theme and the clients expectations.

      Thanks for the offer, right at the moment I haven't got much to go on as I only just got the email describing the job, I will be having a meeting and discussing the specifics in the next few days.

      However, I can ask you for one recommendation, the designer I'm working with has designed a fairly fancy looking site (although not too much, mostly simple HTML/CSS stuff). And I just found out there has not been a theme selected yet. Any recommendations for an easy to customise theme that can handle some fairly fancy visual adjustments?

      What would you use?
