Can i manually update the git commandline client or do I wait for Apple to push an update?

  The vulnerability concerns Git and Git-compatible clients that access Git repositories in a case-insensitive or case-normalizing filesystem.
  I believe you should update both the git command line client and the app. The link says there's an update already available--I don't know if it's through the App Store or not, though.

  Yes, if you're using Apple's included Git you're probabyly outdated anyway. Easiest (and my preferred) way is to use Homebew. http://brew.sh/
