The affordability of that search box should be reconsidered. After all this is mostly about searching for stuff.
I agree. I like how Cocoapods does it http://cocoapods.org/
The funny thing though is that people don't use the site for search as much as you would think. Most people use Google to search and land directly on gem detail pages. For this reason there was less emphasis on search, however it was still too hidden. Hope the adjustment we've made solves the issue!
While I really like the new design, I think that it could be improved on smaller screens. I use an 11 inch Macbook Air and the seach input is almost completely lost amongst the wire graphic. See this screengrab: https://www.dropbox.com/s/k8y706a2m6ojx0i/Screenshot%202014-11-20%2000.23.43.png?dl=0
I know that the input should really be above the wire graphic, so I suggest adding a height-based media query to mitigate this issue.
Thanks, Zander. We've made some adjustments and I believe your use case should be much better now. Let us know if you're still having any issues!
Looks great, had to check it was the same rubygems I use at least once a week.
Thanks, George!
It would be nice to see gems sorted by download count instead of alphabetical
We thought about that, however it's actually not very practical given that older deprecated gems may have a much higher download count while a newer gem may be preferred.
This redesign is awesome. I see the pages are loading much faster now as well.
I don't know how you can tell. The RubyGems pages loaded extremely fast even before the redesign.
Thank you!
