Do you think iPhone 6 is a design copy of Samsung S5?

almost 7 years ago from , Building Makers and Zecoda

Today I was shocked when I hold for the first time the iPhone 6: it looked like a Samsung (!).

Three clear points that I just feel off: 1. Rounded glass in the edges of the screen 2. Back camera comes out of the device... 3. Sleep/Wake button is on the side like most Samsung's (I know it's because it's taller, but the old place is iconic).

Would Steve Jobs approve this design? I'm exaggerating?

With all due respect to Samsung, design is an area where Apple doesn't need to steal. The amount of conceptual industrial design that goes into their products is part of what makes it Apple. I doubt Jony Ive got lazy one day and said 'fuck it, let's just rip off the S5'.

I have to say no. I use a Samsung S5 in work and a iPhone 6 out of work. They feel completely different to me.

The old placement of the sleep/wake button while could be consider iconic, isn't practical (especially on the 6 Plus) from a usability standpoint with these larger phones.

Well this form factor implied some similar design choices (sleep button being the obvious one). But a design copy would be extremely far fetched in my opinion.

Also I'm pretty sure Apple started designing the iPhone 6 well before the S5 was released.

I just noticed the sleep/wake button on the side of the Samsung too. Makes sense for larger phones.

But the camera sticking out? A lot of phones do it, but they don't all look the same. The Samsung it's centered and bulged all around it.

I feel like someone forgot that the very first iphone had rounded edges...

As for the side button on a usability stand point it makes sense, its a larger phone stretching your hand all the way to the top all the time would be irritating.

It kinda look the same to be honest. So does most phones with big screen.

I like the new iPhone, but to be honest, what really made me buy an iPhone was the straight edge and buttons. Didn't get the 6 yet tho.
