I think GIF sounds better. I know the creators intended it to be pronounced JIF, but I'm sticking with GIF.
Agreed. While the intention is for it to sound like JIF, I refuse to bend to the will of someone who spelled it GIF.
I don't understand how anyone can pronounce GIF as JIF when the 'G' stands for Graphics which is also pronounced with a hard G?
The original developers wanted to play off of the JIF peanut butter campaign "Choosy moms choose JIF!" with "Choosy developers choose GIF!" AFAIK this is the only reason its intended to be pronounced as JIF instead of GIF. Anyway, enough of this gotta get back to my Jraffics Designing.

Don't persecute me for my Jif. It is the one true pronunciation.
It's Graphical interchange format, not Jraphical interchange format.
The P in JPG stands for photograph. JPEG is J-peg, not J-pheg.
I love JPEJs.
I just feel silly saying "Jiff". Like saying Josh "Hommé" instead of Josh "Hom".
The great thing is, the language community at large has the final say on a word's pronunciation and no individual can change that. But if you were to ask me, it's definitely a hard G.
There was a medium article in the last year that posited that GIF is the culture while JIF is file format, that I feel resonated really well with me.
It stands for Graphics Interface Format... Graphics has a hard G.
Guilty by ethnicity!
