I think it depends on the complexity of projects. Some projects are simply too big to just say: the designer does the UX as well. Sometimes it requires a lot of research and a strong content strategy.
That's a very good point. Sometimes people are just given an already planned UI or even an already made PSD and told to "spice it up" Still, in my eyes you aren't a very good designer if you don't properly understand UX.
