Wow, +1 for Focus Lab. I hadn't heard of them before. Just checked out their work and definitely some nifty stuff on here. Love their aesthetic.

I haven't looked at them lately, but one of the best brand marketing agencies I ever worked with was Wexley School for Girls in Seattle. They were very offbeat and created an amazing campaign for me when I was doing student lifestyle marketing at microsoft. The concept was something like Steve Zissou's Life Aquatic, as an undersea exploration of Xbox, Zune, and Windows Media Center. super-geeky but pretty cool.

Focus Lab is definitely one of my favorite agency out there! Like their work and like the image they project about their team.

Teehan+Lax is really inspiring too! They have a great story that is worth reading, seriously!

I like the work of CreativeDash on Dribbble, their design is pretty interesting!

More localy (I'm from Montreal, Qc), I think GuerillaWeb is a very good example of a great startup! They have grown very fast and their SEO/SEM techniques ares very impressive.

As for designers, those are some of my favorites I follow on Dribbble: Yoga Perdana, Tom Anders, Jonas Soeder, Jonathan Howell and Fraser Davidson.

Is it weird I'll say the in-house team at Mailchimp? Every time I visit the site, I get some delightful message or an optimized experience. I really appreciate they are building a better product and not just doing a one off thing like many agencies.

Information Architects has my attention. The team has one foot in Germany and another in Tokyo, and though they concentrate on digital solutions, their explorations in print and industrial design are really compelling.

AKQA holds a number of accounts and has a great cross-functional portfolio as well.

Design heroes? Easy, I've long followed the work of Kyle Meyer, even before he joined Facebook, and have enjoyed watching him grow as a designer. And the writing of Facebook's design manager, Julie Zhou is really pushing our field forward.

Oh, and Edward Tufte, he's the one who got me into data visualizations.
