Are you going to Brooklyn Beta this year?

almost 9 years ago from , Design Director at Prolific

Looks like this is the final year for Brooklyn Beta. I had a great time at the last event but I know a lot of people had mixed reviews in regards to the venue, speakers and general organization.

A bunch of us at Prolific bought tickets today, and I'm curious to see who else is planning on going, and what your thoughts are in general.

I'll be there. We'll be sure and put on a DN event the week of for people in town.

See ya there! Is this conference one day long or three days? It's not clear based on the confirmation email and the website.

Last year the Friday even was all day, plus an after party. They had a bunch of other sponsored talks and events happening around Brooklyn on the Weds and Thurs.

I don't think anybody at the Behance office copped any tickets. I know I didn't. :( I wish I would have known sooner.

After last year? Meh. I haven't looked into details, but if it has the same level of pandering speakers, poor logistical planning, and bad venue for their goals, then no.

I'm hoping they'll be improving those issues for this go-around, but what were some things you liked about it last year?

I did love the sense of community - getting to meet a ton of people involved in various creative industries, from digital to print to design to tech to everything in between. No one seemed to be there just to "network," but more to meet and discuss and hang out. That part was really cool to me, and vastly different from other conferences I've been to.

I also liked that it wasn't necessarily speakers trying to "teach" - there was no progressive enhancement, then form fields, then CSS pseudo selectors speakers. Not that there's anything wrong with that kind of conference (if it's what you're looking for), but it was much more based around the idea of doing something you love and that kind of thing. (And outside of two or three of the speakers, the others were very good.)
