Is it me only or is there something else on this image?
My mind is innocent and immaculate, please explain.
Took me a few reads before it occurred to me that this was a hoax.
It's completely free, you pay with your data. The more Google products you use, the higher your insurance payout will be in case of data misuse through secret service or private criminals. Your policy will be automatically offered to you, based on our assessment of your risk.
Google Bee watches over your house and family when you are away, ensure your kids are going where they say they are going, and collects the best moments of your life to share with your family at the end of the day.
The Google Bye Profile will act as a memorial to you, highlighting (in images, video, audio and text) your unique character, achievements and special moments from your life.
How long before this site is taken down? Someone take a screencap.
Yeah, this is clearly fake. You could tell almost immediately due to the use of the Nest brand name...which they just bought, and would be unlikely to change/repurpose. In addition, they used "Gchat", which is actually "Hangouts". Inconsistent branding is a red flag.
I'm guessing that this will steal your data if you press "Sign In".
Yeah, good catch. The illustration follows their styleguide well enough that it's really confusing at first.
After checking the source, the "Sign In" button is harmless. It just takes you to http://accounts.google.com/.
Very strange website though, not sure what the purpose of it is. Is it supposed to trick the media into a frenzy? Or is it a design exercise? If so, I don't see the point in explaining why the Nest company is doing these thing at the very bottom of the page.
Also..."Google Bye" is very poorly named...
It's just a joke
My exact thoughts at first.
I thought "now it's called Google Nest?!"
i smell a cease-and-desist coming up.
If this is a joke, I don't get it.
Yep, same guys who did this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=At9rWPj7MzU
The scary thing is that, although the page says horrible horrible things about Google playing with our personal data with its fake promoted products, it is close enough to reality to be difficult to recognize it as a joke.
Horrible horrible things that people won't think twice about in 10 years.
It's like we love sci-fi until we learn what it takes to have it. Then we all declare this is unlivable despite the same pattern of adaptation to new technology happening time and time again throughout history.
Of course one should be aware and cautious, but we are making the same noise people did when phones were invented.
Aw man, I really wanted a personal drone.
For everyone saying that they'll probably get a takedown notice, isn't it protected because it's satire? I'm not too sure what the rules are about this.
Some of the alt values are pretty subversive and amusing in their own right.
"You want Google Nest"
"Dont' trust the hand that holds the plant"
Maybe it was just me, but the URL gave off alarm bells straight away..
.org and a hyphen? Not very Google-ly
Just looking at the design, one will have a difficult time understanding what the page is about without reading through the paragraph. It is not good for quick consumption.
It would really behoove them to put some sort of note saying that the site is a parody / satire / whatever, and is in no way associated with Google Inc.
They will likely just get a takedown notice either way, but the fact that they link to actual Google login pages, I feel, would give Google good standing to go after this legally.
