What is doesn't explain is that it creates a layer group whose contents are a physical line, box, text, etc which it places above the rest of the canvas/layers.
Whereas you can just you can just hold Alt to measure things, this creates a permanent overlay which for exporting to developers is fantastic.
Visual explanation:
Great plugin and thanks Ale for posting this! One question: In this draw seems as this plugin can also measure the margin between the circle and the font, how is this possible??
would love to know too!
I'm assuming that was simply the result of drawing a rectangle between the circle and the font, measuring it, and then removing the rectangle.
However, measuring distance between elements doesn't seem that hard to implement, and given the beauty of open source, probably someone will implement that soon : )
Update: there's already a request to add the feature : )
What a fantastic tool. Already putting it to good use.
Awesome! Been doing that manually for far too long, fantastic plugin.
Thanks for your effort.
Nevermind - I got it to work!
@cristina b. How did you get it to work? I installed the plugin and see it in my Sketch plugins. When I select an object and try to use it, nothing happens. What am i missing?
You have to export everything within the .zip, not just the initial 1-5 .sketch plugin files.
Having issues installing/using the plugin. It shows up in my plugins folder on sketch - but it doesnt work beyond that.
Wow, this is so nice! Plus it converts px to dp, along with supporting the Android screen sizes, which is perfect when you're handing over specs to Android developers. Bravo!
How do you convert to dp? I'm only seeing px.
In Sketch, If you go to Plugins > Settings > Design Resolution, you can change it from px to dp.
Hey-o, that's awesome! Thanks!
I would love if it also was able to measure margins.
But this is a really great plugin!
I guess if you create a rectangle the same dimensions as the margin, then use this plugin it will yield the result you want.
A little bit of extra leg work, but might be worth it.
Yeah. sounds like the best "work around".
Still easier than doing it all by hand.
Yes, especially since it seemingly shows margin being measured in the demo screenshot.
For someone who is spending a lot of time specifying an app UI the "old fashioned way", this makes me sad :(
Because I'm restricted to a Windows environment, therefore using Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign.
Someday I will be as efficient as this; nice find though!
Oh! Don't despair : )
Try http://specctr.com!
Woah! this looks great; I'll look into it. Thanks for another great find :D
