Ask DN: Best Design Conferences in the U.S.?

9 years ago from , Product Designer at SalesLoft

I was at An Event Apart in SF this past December and had a fantastic time. I'm looking to book a trip to another conference this year and was looking for suggestions.

Thanks!

Heard very good things about XOXO. Tempted to add EPIC to this year's conferences (anthropology - not design). Also really enjoyed Lean UX NYC last year and going again this year (bias warning: was speaker at Lean UX NYC ;-)

    Valio Con gets my vote.

This was the one I was looking at. I'm a huge fan of Drew Wilson, and wish I got to meet the Vox Product Team. Those guys are doing awesome stuff.

Drew is one of the coolest guys around and the conference has a vibe that is like nothing else. Everyone I met last year was amazing and it provided me with way more opportunities than I could have imagined.

Not to sound like an ad for Valio Con, but it really was that good.

Did anyone go to UX Week in SF? Curious to hear how it was (and if it was worth it — so expensive!).

XOXO was great. I would highly recommend it if you're interested in independent makers as well as design. http://2013.xoxofest.com/

Blend Conf was amazing last year and it should be fantastic again in 2014. The one I'm looking forward to most right now.

It seemed odd at first, but I loved that we were encouraged to not use devices (phone, laptop, tablet, etc) in the sessions. So much more focus on the content.

SXSW, except don't go there for design. Go for music and stay away from the tech booths + nerds in swag shirts.

Isn't that the exact opposite of the advice that the OP asked for?
