2022 is going to be a big year for Geckoboard.

We believe every organization should have access to high quality data tools that are affordable and easy to use. Unfortunately, most solutions today are either too costly or too complicated for most companies. We want to level the playing field. That's why we're evolving our product, and are looking for an experienced Product Designer to help us take on the challenge.

As our Senior Product Designer, youll lead the design work on challenging, rewarding, and high-impact projects across the company, and will be empowered to use your knowledge and experience to improve how we work. Youll also partner with the Product and Leadership Team to help define the longer-term product vision.

Product and Design is at the heart of Geckoboard. Half of our company leadership have a Product/Design background (including the CEO), and we believe that building something great, which genuinely serves the needs of our customers, is how well win. Were a lowercase-a agile bunch, closely collaborating in cross-functional teams and taking a lean approach to product development, so within your first 90 days youll ship something youve worked on and see the impact of that work.

As our Senior Product Designer you will:
  • Lead the design work on major projects from beginning to end: research, ideation, prototyping, testing, launching, evaluating, and iterating. Youll use your strong UX and system design skills to ensure we've deeply understood the problem space and explored a wide range of possible solutions, then work closely with developers to make these a reality.
  • Develop a deep understanding of our users and the reasons why they use Geckoboard. Youll organise and conduct user research and testing sessions, dig into data and previous insights, and work closely with Product Managers.
  • Collaborate and create a shared understanding across the team. Youll communicate clearly through documentation and presentations, explaining the rationale for your ideas and the trade-offs involved. Youll also get others involved by leading workshops to explore problems, generate ideas, and gather feedback.
  • Level up how we work. Whether through your feedback and mentorship to other designers, or through process changes and collaborating with our VP of Product, youll strive to improve how we build a great product. 

You should apply if:
  • You have experience working on complex design projects, from start to finish, in a startup environment*.
  • Youre excited about designing data products, and understand that designing them to be simple is a result of grappling with, and mastering, their inherent complexity - not avoiding it.
  • You have a particular interest in the UX side of product design - research, system/service design, and rapid prototyping.
  • You measure the quality of your work by the impact it has for real users.
  • You enjoy sharing your knowledge and helping everyone grow and improve, perhaps having mentored other designers in the past.
  • You design systems, not just screens, and can zoom out to consider the entire user experience beyond the product and its interface.
  • Youre comfortable starting with ambiguity and are happy to get hands on to understand a problem through user research and digging into data.
  • You can balance speed with quality, and prototype at the appropriate fidelity to explore an idea.
  • You facilitate great design: whether that means pairing with developers, running workshops, or working with other designers to improve our processes.

Work your best
We're big on being a flexible workplace. Day-to-day we have core hours and allow you to decide how you work around that. We consider 25 days of holiday a year to be a minimum, not a maximum, and have a flexible working policy so that if you need to step out for a school run, an appointment now and again, or something else, it's no problem. Some of our team also have shorter working weeks and were more than happy to try to accommodate this or another arrangement when possible.

Logistics
At this time, were only considering candidates who are (or will be) based in the United Kingdom or Western Europe (CET timezone).

Our hiring process
  • 20-30 minute call with a Talent Partner.
  • Video call with Ben, our VP of Product.
  • Virtual onsite with the team, broken into three smaller sessions.
The whole process usually takes about 3 weeks end to end, but were flexible and will do our best to accommodate timings that will work for you. As you progress through the stages, your Talent Partner will share feedback and information on what to expect/prepare for.
