Hey sorry, I just call it like I see it. For me, the site is very slow. What is the design rationale for all the animation? Not sure if that's contributing to the slowness, but I'm finding myself waiting for things to appear. IMO, anything that requires a loading dingus is too slow. Are all the animations purely decorative or do they serve as a particular design solution?
I think the design solution is that he is an interaction designer. It shows he can do interactions. The kind of places that would potentially hire him would not need to worry about 8mb of loading.
Everywhere should worry about 8mb of loading.
Why? I went on this portfolio at work and it loaded for me instantly. Also, we are currently looking for an interaction designer at my work, therefore 8mb really isn't an issue. This isn't a fmcg e-com platform where every second counts. Don't forget context when you're designing.
Took about 4-5 seconds, and their titles in order are creative director and interaction designer.
Optimization is nice but not everyone's priorities are the same.
Odds are if this is sacrilege to you, this isn't your candidate and you should move on.
And that's perfectly fine. No one's word here is law.
There is a lot of animation for animation's sake and it makes the whole affair feel a bit too try-hard. I second other comments about feeling claustrophobic.
Feel like even the animations are way too slow. Scrolled down at my normal pace and missed the content because animations were too slow.
Great design though.
