Question for you regarding specifically Popups, junk mail, tracking scripts, marketing spam, unskippable ads, clickbait, linkbait, native advertising, etc.
These are digital sales tactics (I realize you identify them as attention grabs), what do you presume is better? Specifically when creating content costs non-trivial amounts of money and paying for content is usually funded by these bullshit tactics.
It's also true (via data*) that people don't want to/literally do not pay for content.
Some recent example data I found: * 11 % of US (10% globally) are paying for online news * 41% of world gets news from Facebook and 11% from Twitter (ad supported/free models)
